About
Our Story
Coffee has always been more than a morning ritual in our family—it's been a bridge between cultures, a passion passed down through generations, and now, a mission to share Colombia's finest beans with Europe.
My mother, Maria, grew up in Colombia's coffee mountains, where the scent of roasting beans and the sight of endless green hillsides shaped her childhood. Her love for coffee ran deep enough that she pursued formal training in coffee quality and processing, eventually managing the harvest operations for a friend's farm—overseeing the careful, grain-by-grain selection of only the ripest coffee cherries. I spent my childhood summers visiting these farms, captivated by the mountains, the warmth of the people, and the meticulous craft behind each cup.
Years later, while I was working in real estate in New York City, Maria dreamed of launching her own coffee brand in Europe. The timing wasn't right then, but the dream never faded. When I moved to Spain, everything aligned. I found myself drinking her coffee daily (admittedly, I'm close to a caffeine addict at 400mg per day), experiencing firsthand not just the rich flavor but the clarity, energy, and even the muscle recovery benefits that quality coffee provides. I realized this wasn't just about caffeine—it was about sharing something exceptional that most people never get to experience.
That's how Tierra Volcan was born.
Our Colombian Roots
Our coffee comes from Cajamarca, Tolima—a high-altitude region sitting between 1,700 and 2,000 meters above sea level, near volcanic soil that infuses the beans with rich minerals and nutrients. This isn't the mass-produced coffee that big corporations chase. These are small lots from dedicated farmers who prioritize quality over quantity, growing beans that are simply too exceptional and too limited for the industrial coffee trade.
We source through Carlos, our partner in the coffee region and Maria's longtime friend who still lives and works among these farms. Carlos is our boots-on-the-ground expert—handling everything from exporter relationships to quality control to farmer connections. He's a jack of many trades and, as the saying goes, better than a master of one. His deep relationships with local farmers give us access to specialty beans that would otherwise never reach European customers.
Our Process & Values
What sets our coffee apart starts in the field. Our farmers practice grain-by-grain selection, picking only perfectly mature cherries—never the green, unripe ones that dilute quality. They treat each plant with care, avoiding aggressive harvesting that damages branches or harms future yields. This sustainable, eco-conscious approach extends to every stage: minimal waste, no plastic pollution, and deep respect for the environment that makes this coffee possible.
After harvest, our beans are water-washed and air-dried before being roasted to Carlos's signature profile—a borderline medium-light roast that preserves the bean's natural characteristics. The coffee then rests for two weeks, allowing the flavors to develop and stabilize before we ship it fresh to your door. The result is a smooth, clean cup with a strong caffeine kick—the kind of coffee that makes your morning feel purposeful.
Why This Matters
Every bag of Tierra Volcan represents complete traceability and conscious consumption. You're not just getting premium specialty coffee at an accessible price (€14 per 250g bag, or €12 with subscription)—you're supporting sustainable farming practices, fair partnerships with local farmers, and the preservation of Colombia's coffee heritage.
For Maria, it's about environmental sustainability and honoring the land that raised her. For Carlos, it's about maintaining strong relationships with the farming families he's known for decades. For me, it's about quality—delivering coffee that genuinely improves your day, whether you're a busy professional, a coffee enthusiast, or someone who simply appreciates the difference that care and expertise make.
Looking Forward
We're starting direct-to-consumer but welcome partnerships with like-minded cafés and wholesale clients who share our values. As we grow, a portion of our profits will fund an AI-powered education initiative for children in coffee-growing regions—investing in the next generation of the communities that make our coffee possible.
This is our Coffee Pickers Selection—the first of many exceptional batches from Tierra Volcan. We hope you'll taste the mountains, the care, and the passion in every cup.
